Hello Sunday Morning Road Race
“Hello Sunday Morning” encourages individuals to look at changing the pattern of their drinking by taking a break from alcohol & incentivising that break with goals e.g taking up running/exercise. Further details can be found at www.hellosundaymorning.org
In 2014 as part of Cork Drug and Alcohol awareness week the Cork Local Drug and Alcohol Task Force wanted to highlight the recent addition of alcohol to the task forces brief and support an evidence based alcohol specific initiative i.e. Hello Sunday Morning
The CLDATF organized a 4 mile road race to support and highlight the Hello Sunday Morning initiative in an attempt to further a health promotion and public health approach to alcohol consumption.
The event took place on the Sunday of the Cork Jazz weekend and was a hugely successful event with over 350 runner s participating.
In 2015 the Cork Local Drug & Alcohol Task Force partnered with the Southern Regional Drug & Alcohol Task Force and the Health Service Executive in organising another 4 mile Road race on Sunday 25th of October 2015, headquartered at The Kingsley Hotel.
This race was also supported by Healthy Ireland. Healthy Ireland is the national framework for action to improve the health and wellbeing of our country over the coming generation. Based on international evidence, it outlines a new commitment to public health with a considerable emphasis on prevention, while at the same time advocating for stronger health systems (Healthy Ireland Framework)
Again the event took place on the Sunday of the Cork Jazz weekend and was a hugely successful event with 344 runner s participating
